The announcement disperses early rumors that the event might be held on Sept. 7.

Apple is expected to showcase it’s new iPod Touch equipped with FaceTime feature just like iPhone 4 and perhaps also Retina Display? There have been photos circulating for weeks now, showing the front LCD panel of the device with a hole that leaves room for a front-facing FaceTime camera.

Because the iPod touch doesn’t use phone number to make FaceTime calls, beta releases of iOS 4.1 show that users will be identified by their e-mail addresses.

It is also rumored that the company wil be launching it’s new $99 Apple TV device, possibly renamed "iTV", as well as 99-cent TV show rentals.
