Apple has pushed the release of iOS 4.0.1 and it is now available for download. As promised Apple has improved on the formula used to calculate signal bars. The release came a day after Apple released a beta of a different update, iOS 4.1, to developers.
Note: This release contains new baseband 05.13.05 which will not work with ultrasn0w 0.93.
This software fix, however, does not address antenna issue that some users have experienced. Apple will probabely address that issue tomorrow at their press conference, scheduled to be held at arround 10 a.m Pacific Time.

The update will also have no effect the proximity sensor issue that has affected some iPhone 4 owners, which causes the phone’s screen to activate while a call is in progress, causing users to accidentally choosing another option on display.
iOS 4.0.1 is supported on iPhone 4 and iPhone 3GS aswell as iPhone 3G (with exception of multitasking feature).
Firmware 3.2.1 for iPad on the other hand promises to bring not only improved Signal calculations but also improved WiFi conectivity.
